8vo: [16]-1152-[78] pp. (last blank f. missing, title soiled with tears not touching the printed part and reinforced with paper, a few wormholes in the first ff., water stains in the lower part throughout, some min. spotting and/or sm. stains, some brown ink underlining).
17th-c. dark brown morocco on wooden boards, upper side with gilt fillets frame, angular fleuron, mention "M. I. L. D." and date "1627" separated with a sm. fleuron, two gilt metal clasps with punches "B-I" and "tête de nègre", dark blue edges (spine, lower side and leather straps of clasps renewed, spine damaged with wormtracks and large scratches, upper hinge split and reinforced in the lower part). In mod. slipcase.
Reprint of the first de Tournes Latin Bible (1st 1554), based on Robert Estienne's text. Prized for its abundant woodcut illustration by Bernard Salomon: woodcut arabesque title-border, and almost 200 woodcuts in-text figuring biblical scenes, saints, etc. A few figures partly enhanced with watercoulour by an amateur.
