Map of Hainaut County taken from the famous "Civitates orbis terrarum" (the 1581 Latin ed., text on verso, leaf 22). First and ideal representation of the province as a garden ("Wapenkaart/Jardin d'armoiries") surrounded by a palisade or wall punctuated by 22 cities represented as towers, with the great arms of Hainaut in the upper part and the city of Mons as capital in the lower part. The whole contains more than 200 coats of arms, ordered according to the classical division of the three orders. Captions in Latin and French.
