Lot description

Colour etching and mezzotint, 18,6 x 13,1 cm, laid paper, signed "Gautier major sculp", numb. and dated "Tom. II. Plan. 10. Mars 1757", French text (some marg. spots).

Hinged at right edges, under passe-partout.

Early colour print of a fish, published in the "Observations périodiques sur la physique, l'histoire naturelle et les arts, ou Journal des sciences et arts" in March 1757. The Gautier-Dagoty family is famous for their early colour prints in the so-called "Tétrachromie" technique, incl. anatomical plates.
