Letters patent for the Ghent printer Adrien Colier granting the right of printing and selling books, issued Brussels 16 March 1778 in the name of empress Maria Theresa.

Bifolium, c. 33,5 x 48,5 cm: [2] pp. + 2 bl. pp., on vellum, in French, signed "P. Marias" and countersigned "de Reul", large red wax seal attached in metal box (folded, outside and margins soiled). In good condition.

Reply to a request by "Adrien Colier bourgeois et habitant de nostre ville de Gand, tendant à obtenir nos lettres d’octroi [...] exercer les fontions d’imprimeur et de libraire [...] et y vendre et distribuer toutes sortes de livres non suspects [...]". Adrien Colier, a former apprentice of P.-F. de Goesin (1762-1778) was active as a printer and bookseller 1787-1808.
