Lot description
Large 4to: c. 70 drawings, various techniques, wove paper, some signed, various conditions.
Hinged or mounted. Green buckram (used).
Contains mainly drawings by the Verhulst family: Félix, Siméon (1808-?) and Charles-Pierre-Antoine (1775-1820). The latter, son of Pierre-Antoine Verhulst, was a portraitist with a very good reputation as painter for the Prince of Orange, later William II. This album contains two of his drawn portraits: a male profile and a nun. Siméon, probably his son, drew landscapes and views of castles, churches, farms, etc. Félix, besides these subjects, drew also portraits and compositions after P. Lauters and P. Monnier. Other artists incl. Alphonse and Maria Deschamps, A. Meulemans, etc. This album also contains 5 manuscripts: 4 by Auguste Bisack (2 satirical dictionaries and 2 texts about love and thoughts, copies of the original manuscripts) and 1 poem by G. Verreyt ("L'image").
