Lot description

Pencil, 19,8 x 28,3 cm (visible), wove paper, signed "K.V.", located and dated "20-7-1940" (light marg. damp stain, few spots).

Under passe-partout and frame.

Keith Vaughan (1912-1977) was a self-taught British painter. During World War II, he positioned himself as a conscientious objector and joined the St John Ambulance and then the Non-Combatant Corps. This drawing, located in Eichstätt in 1940, was probably made in the Oflag VII-B, a camp for officers. In fact, British, French and Belgian officers replaced Polish prisoners on 22 May 1940.
