Red morocco by Darlaud, double gilt-ruled covers, gilt-decorated spine with raised bands, gilt inside dentelles, gilt edges (boards part. darkened, joints, edges and corners rubbed, sm. rubbings on covers).
Decretals collection, known as the Liber Sextus or "Sextus Liber Decretalium", promulgated in 1298 by Pope Bonifacius VIII (c. 1235-1303) who entrusted three canonists with its redaction. Ed. by Jean Chappuis, his name appearing in a Latin acrostic on title, with glosses by Élie Reynier and complements by Giovanni d'Andrea. Follows the 1511 edition. Illustrated with 3 full-page woodcuts: 2 genealogical trees and book presentation by Bonifacius VIII. Kerver's device on title; some large initials within a dotted decoration. Neat copy printed in Gothic type in red and black in two columns.
