Contemp. marbled calf by an unidentified Amsterdam bindery, boards with central gilt-tooled decoration painted black within gilt-rolled border frame and corner pieces, gilt-orn. flat spine, gilt-orn. sides and inside dentelles, marbled edges (sl. rubbed, front joint split). Good copy in a nice binding.
Rare second edition (1st 1707 titled "Favissae utriusque antiquitatis") of this beautiful illustrated work by H. Spoor (1693-1715). Engr. ill.: title-vign. and 99 portraits (some signed P. Bodart) depicting gods and heroes from classical mythology and history. Each pl. accompanied with Latin verses and an epigram. Title in red & black.
