Lot description

8vo: [8]-247-[1 bl.] pp. (toned, top inner margin dampstained, some soiling, a few wormholes, blank title corner torn off).

Contemp. blind panel-stamped calf, covers with two panels showing St Rochus, separated by a roll of animals, spine with raised bands, mod. endpapers, single old vellum flyleaf preserved (worn, head, tail and corners def.).

Rare early ed. (1st 1512) of Erasmus’ popular treatise on writing in Latin, incl. 3 dedicatory letters (Allen 260, 305, 311). Title within elaborate woodcut border. Printed in italics.
