4to: [32]-523 [= 543]-[40] pp. (first 4 ff. sl. browned & shorter with right margins strengthened, marg. wormtrack or wormholes in begin., strengthening piece to NN7 and lower corner repaired to NN8, sm. hole in title).

18th-c. sheep, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands with gilt coat of arms, red marbled edges (rubbed, head missing, tail def., wormhole and sm. wormtrack on spine).

Famous political treatise (1st 1594) by Ammirato (1531-1601), historian and philosopher, in which he presents himself as an anti-Machiavellian using Tacitus to refute Machiavelli's secular republicanism. Printer's mark on title. Copy in variant B (cfr. EDIT16).
