4to: 152 pp. (pp. 95-96 missing, marg. dampstaining, tear without lack in p. 39, sl. foxing or soiling).
Contemp. limp vellum, flat spine (sl. soiled, sm. lacks on edges of front cover, ties missing, front flyleaf missing).
Rare first edition published posthumously by Scipione Girolamo, brother of Girolamo. The commedia written in 1564 was performed at the Palazzo Pitti for the wedding of Ferdinand I de' Medici, Grand-Duke of Tuscany, and Christina of Lorraine, granddaughter of Catherine de' Medici. The work was divided in six acts with in between each musical intermezzi composed by famous Florentine composers (Cristofano Malvezzi, Giulio Caccini, Emilio de Cavalieri...). The scenic apparatus was made by the architect Bernardo Timante Buonacorsi (c. 1531-1608), theatrical designer and military engineer. The poet Bargagli (1537-1586) was member of the Accademia degli Intronati under the name of Materiale Intronato. Woodcuter printer's mark on title.
