Lot description

Engr., on 4 sheets, together 96,6 x 140 cm, hand-coloured (some light soiling, mostly in marg. and folds, 2 very sm. holes at the top, few min. restorations on verso, few spots).

Edges enlarged and reinforced with laid paper, c. 1,5 cm (few pinholes, some soiling).

2nd and extended state of this rare mural map by Pierre Mortier figuring the Low Countries during the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714). In the left upper corner, title cartouche set in a very large and elaborate view of the allied troops under command of the Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722), to whom this map is dedicated, with a battle scene in the background. In the right lower corner, a smaller battle view and an inset map of the Duchy of Luxembourg.
