Lot description

8vo: [24]-300 pp. (some marg. dampstaining and spotting, tiny hole in title).

Contemp. limp vellum, flat spine titled in ink, remains of vellum ties (loosening, def. at front top edge, front endpaper gone).

Extremely rare La Rochelle ed. of Lipius' treatise on the power and duties of rulers. First publ. Leiden 1589 it soon appeared in Catholic and Reformed publishing centres, such as the Calvinist bulwark La Rochelle. Jérôme Haultin also published a French translation by Charles le Ber in the same year. On pp. 250-300 "Breves notae" to books I-III. Woodcut mark on title.
