First and only edition of this dictionary of (largely) contemporary painters, by the Lier poet C. de Bie (1627-1711), son of the painter Adriaan de Bie, and a magistrate and part-time writer and poet. Engr. ill.: title by C. Meyssens after A. van Diepenbeeck, 95 full-page portraits and 1 id. allegorical pl. The work can be seen as a 17th-c. continuation of the works of Vasari and Van Mander on Flemish and Dutch painters.
