Lot description

2 vol., 8vo; 2 front. and 28 pl. (tears without loss to map of vol. I).

Publ. grey pictorial cloth, flat spines (very sl. soiled).

Second edition. Illustrated with 2 portrait-frontispieces of the author, 3 maps in colour (2 fold.), 25 plates of which 5 fold., and numerous in-text ill. The aim of the journey made by the British explorer Colquhoun (1848-1914) was to trace the best route to connect the Burmah and China by railway; the fold. map in 2nd volume depicts a proposed extention of British Burma Railway System. Colquhoun was the first Administrator of the Southern Rhodesia or British South Africa Company.
