Lot description

4to.

Publ. blue paper cardboard, gilt-titled spine (spine faded, sl. rubbed). Untrimmed copy.

Title and red initials designed by Anna Simons (1871-1951), who studied at the Royal College of Art in London and was a student of Edward Johnston in 1900. She began to work for the Bremer Presse in 1918. Limited edition to 530 copies, one of the 150 printed for the "Buch-Bund Hamburg" n. 131-280 (n. 175). The Bremer Presse was founded in 1911 by Willy Wiegand and ran until 1939. It was a reference in German book design. Like the Doves Press, the Bremer rejected ornaments, except for initials, and paid extreme attention to the choice of types and meticulous presswork to impress readers.
Joined: Read, Henri-Charles - Poésies. Dessins d'Émile Adam gravés à l'eau-forte par Le Rat. Paris, A. Lemerre, 1895. 8vo. Three-quarter red morocco by P. Affolter, wr. pres. Ill. with 10 etchings on Japan paper. Prov. A Fontaine, bookseller in Paris (stamp). - Monogr. stamps. (2 vol.)
