Lot description

Engr., 54,3 x 40,4 cm (sl. toned).

Hinged at upper edge. Under passe-partout.

Second state of this very rare map of the river Scheldt near Antwerp, showing the various connections between the East and West Scheldt by cartographer Pieter Verbiest II (c. 1605-1693), depicting the region between Bergen-op-Zoom and Antwerp. Remarkable for this map is that the different states show the changes in the military-political situation between the Dutch States army and the Spanish troops during the Eighty Year’s War. Verso blank.
