Lot description

8vo: [16]-644-[2-2 bl.] pp. (toned, marg. dampstaining with a few mouldy spots, initial and final ff. soiled).

Contemp. gold-tooled calf, covers with gilt arms within a central framework with corner pieces, gilt spine with raised bands and morocco label, a.e.g., (later) marbled endpapers (rubbed, loosening, head def., lower fore-edge corner bumped). Good copy.

Collected Latin verse of the French Jesuit Louis Cellot (1588-1658), including his 4 Neo-Latin plays (S. Adrianus Martyr, Sapor admonitus, Chosroes, Reviviscentes) and his epic poem "Mauritiados Andegavensis lib. III". Engr. mark on covers.

Prov. Vannes prize book, awarded 12 September 1637 to a "Joannes Ponner" (?). - Sébastien de Rosmadec (1570-1646), bishop of Vannes, Brittany (arms on covers). - Monastic ms. entry on title. - Later name on front flyleaf.
