Lot description

8vo: 801-[1 bl.] pp. (usual toning).

Contemp. gold-tooled mottled calf, covers with large gilt arms, richly gilt spine with raised bands and morocco label, marbled edges. Very good copy.

Amsterdam ed. of a Jesuit poetical textbook by P. Aler (1656-1727).

Prov. Splendid Breda prize binding with the large gilt arms of the princes Willem IV & V on front cover (with the devices "Honi soit qui mal y pense" and "Je Maintiendrai") and the Breda arms on lower cover (Spoelder (Breda) 2 and 3). - Pauw van Wieldrecht (Dutch patrician family; collector’s stamp).
Joined: Theatrum lyricum, quo poetarum lyricorum omnium [...] phrases, loci communes, comparationes, synonyma [...]. Cologne, J. Engelert & Heirs of Odenthal, 1741. 8vo. Contemp. gilt sheep (sl. worn). Similar textbook, awarded as a schoolprize at Neustadt (an der Weinstrasse, Rheinland-Pfalz). Ref. Not in VD18. (2 vol.)
