19th-c. gilt cherry morocco by Lortic, covers with triple gilt ruled border, richly gilt spine on 5 raised bands, gilt sides, richly gilt inside dentelles,marbl. endpapers, a.e.g., cloth marker. Excellent copy.
Rennes edition of a collection of stories by the French lawyer Noël du Fail, seigneur de La Hérissaye (c.1520–1591). “His tales are an important document of rural life in the 16th c. in Brittany. The short comic tales and anecdotes are at first glance merely amusing, but behind their light tone, verbal fantasy and amusing portraits lie profound moral, political and religious reflections” (Wikipedia).
