Lot description
4to: 2 engr. titles, 54 pl. (marg. dampst. on title, pl. 42 bound before 41, some marg. spotting rarely touching pl., soiling in upper bl. marg. of pl. 23).
18th-c. mottled sheep, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands (sm. restorations to corners, joints sl. rubbed, few sm. scratches on boards, corners sl. bumped). Modern marbled box.
First published under the title "Les pourtraicts de tous les souverains [...]", as still mentioned on the beautifully engr. title by R. Collin, with a dedication to Charles Vanden Bosch, bishop of Bruges. 54 engr. portraits of the sovereigns of Brabant, set in diverse frames with their coats of arms and devises, from Pepin of Landen (c. 580-640) to Philip IV of Spain (1605-1665), by various engr. of the "Rubens school": P. de Jode, C. Waumans, P. van Schuppe, J. Neefs, P. de Bailleu, F. Bouttats, R. Collin and P. Clouwet.
