Dutch Jansz edition (1st Italian ed. 1567, 1st Dutch 1612), offering the reader an eloquent description of the 16th-c. towns in the Low Countries by the Italian resident and author Guicciardini (1521-1589). Petrus Montanus updated the French text by François de Belleforest (1530-1583) for the Cornelis Claesz. 1609 edition. Jansz used the same text as the Dutch Blaeu ed. of 1612 which includes these adaptations. Engr. ill. (complete): title, 1 pl. with coats of arms and 103 maps (on 102 ff.) reprinted from Jansz' Latin 1616 ed. by P. de Keere, incl. maps and town plans of Belgium, the Netherlands and Northern France. With alternative maps of Mons (87, instead of Hainaut) and Bruges (88, instead of Mons).
