19th-c. half cloth, titled spines with raised bands (edges rubbed).

First edition (except part 1 in 2nd ed.) of this historical work on the United Provinces of the Netherlands by the Swiss theologian and biblical scholar Jean Le Clerc (1657-1736). He settled in Amsterdam in 1684 and became professor of philosophy, literature and Hebrew at the Remonstrant seminary. Engr. ill.: 3 allegorical front. by B. Picart (vol. 1), after G. de Lairesse (vol. 2), by A. Bloteling (vol. 3), large folding pl. by D. Marot titled "La grande sale [sic] d'audience de La Haye", 2 large fold. pl., 43 double-page pl., 57 full-page pl. and numerous in-text ill. in 4th part (some full-page) depicting 396 medals and coins. Part titles printed in red & black.
