Large folio: [4]-37-[3] pp. with 2 preliminary and trailing blanks; 24 pl. (pl. 2 bound before title, a few small spots on the blanks).
Contemp. red calf, gilt ruled and blind-stamped boards, gilt spine with 5 raised bands, a.e.g. (weak upper joints, rubbed corners).
First edition illustrated with 24 very nice hand-coloured aquatints, figuring archaeological sites and monuments, such as an ancient granary, baths, theatre, temple, etc. including the ruins of the Grand Aqueduct of Ancient Carthage, as well as local costumes.
