Lot description
1. "Semaine d'Aviation d'Anvers. Plan du champ d'aviation. Plaine de Wilrijck [...]." C. 1909. Drawing, black ink, watercolour, paper, 42,5 x 63 cm (sl. soiled, sm. marg. tears). Mounted on cardboard (some losses to right side). Plan of the "Week of the Aviation", organised in September 1909 by the Aero Club of Antwerp. The airfield of Wilrijk disappeared in 1921. - 2. "Champ d'aviation de l'Aéro Club d'Anvers. Vue à vol d'oiseau du champ d'Aviation de St. Job lez Anvers." C. 1911. Drawing, black ink, watercolour, paper, 63,5 x 98 cm (some sm. holes in bl. marg., right edge sl. soiled, upper corners creased, sm. def. on verso at the right edge sl. visible on recto). View of the first airfield of Belgium, founded by pioneer Pierre de Caters on his own property.
Both plans by Fernand de Montigny (1885-1974), a Belgian architect and Olympic fencer. Together with L. Somers, he drafted the Stadion for the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, situated on 't Kiel.
