Lot description

London, John Hardesty, 1652

8vo: [xxii]-103 pp. (running title of a few ff. shaved, 18th-c. annot. "collated & perfect. J.F.K. 1798" on title p.).

Early 20th-c. decorated paper boards (pattern of dragons), printed paper label on spine.

A very rare work known in a folio-ed. (see OCLC), but this ed. is essentially in 8vo. Some copies have a second, otherwise unrelated De Groot title, with Goldsmith's translation added in the rear. But this ed. only contains the "Ioseph"-Bible. Includes the errata p. Apparently the former owner, J.F.K., had the small 8vo ed. mounted in a larger size paper, creating broad margins, resembling a 4to ed. The capital letters in the title represent the year of publication.
Ref. We found 2 auctions records (in 1897 and 1909) for this edition. - Wing G-2125. - Ter Meulen / Diermanse 197.
Prov. Holthius (ms. entry on dedication p.). - J.F.K. (ms. entry on title).
