Lot description

Folio: [50]-461-[5] ff. (final blank pres., wormholes throughout, light marginal dampstains, occasional foxing).

Cont. blind-stamped pigskin over wood, covers ruled with fillets and rollstamps, author's name stamped on upper cover, spine on raised bands (rubbed, wormholes, head split, clasps gone).

Rare edition by Sebastian Brant of Saint Augustine's sermons. Gran was the first printer in Hagenau. He worked largely with Rynman, considered to be the first non-printing publisher in the history of printing. Title in red and black within a woodcut border (with Gran's device and the arms of Hagenau). Printed in gothic type, in 2 cols. Some dotted initials. Ref.
