Guicciardini's famous description of the Netherlands (1st Italian 1567) published here by Janssonius with identical text to the Blaeu 1612 edition, a Dutch translation by Cornelis Kiliaan (1578-1607) of the Italian Plantin edition from 1581. It comprises a description of the Low Countries in the 1st part and of the Northern Netherlands in the 2nd part. Janssonius' choice to republish the Blaeu edition unchanged is remarkable given, in the same year, the signing of the Peace of Münster marking the formal recognition of the independent Dutch Republic.
