Contemp. half mottled calf, marbled paper covers, gilt-ruled spine with raised bands (covers and edges rubbed, spine and joints more slightly, lower turn-in def., corners bumped). Copy with wide margins.

Second edition, partly original (1st 1742, 33 pl.), of an illustrated inventory and classification of shells in 18th-c. France. The part "Zoomorphose", i.e. description of the animals that inhabited the shells, is new. Complete with the engr. ill.: front. by Chedel after Boucher and 41 full-page pl. Each pl. at the expense of a Duke, a Landgrave, i.a. Duke of Sully, Bonnier de Lamosson, Count of Meurcé, Baron of Wind, etc.
