Lot description
16mo: 360-[5] pp., entirely ruled with brown ink (last blank leaf missing, occ. very light spotting, some contemp. annot.).
19th-c. dark blue morocco, double gilt frame "à la Duseuil" on boards with little tool in the corners, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, inside dentelle, a.e.g. (some very light browning). Nice copy.
Second Plantin ed. (1st 1568) of Martial's epigrams in the version given by Hadrianus Junius (1511-1575), with additional notes. Junius acquired a manuscript in England and decided to study the work and to edit it. The following editions issued by the Officina Plantiniana in 1568 and 1587, prepared by Edmund Augerius, are expurgated from several "obscenities". Pocket printing in a fine pastiche binding.
