Lot description
Brown ink, brown wash, 22,3 x 80,4 cm (2 sheets), laid paper, ms. note "Fran(ces)co Ricch(iard)o Arch(itect)o / pub. et leg. [?] Colleg." and Italian text, numb. V153 in red chalk on verso (some foxing, few creases, edges strengthened, corner repaired, few flattened folds).
Hinged at upper edges. Under passe-partout and frame (studied outside frame).
Impressive architectural drawing after a building or drawing by Francesco Maria Richini (1584-1658), who designed i.a. the Palazzo Brera in Milan. The handwriting and thick wove paper suggest this drawing was made by an 18th-c. architect to document Richini's design. It is influenced by the North and West facades of Giulio Romano's (c. 1499-1546) Pallazo del Te in Mantua.
Prov. Captain Carlo Prayer (1826-1900), Milan (stamp, L.2044). - Illegible ms. note, 1977. - Jean Willems, Brussels art dealer (label).
