Lot description
Black and white chalk, 14,5 x 28,0 cm, blue laid paper, old attribution "Le Brun", numb. 9 in pen (blue paper strips added at left and right edges).
Laid down on passe-partout. Good condition.
Dynamic battle scene with soldiers on foot and horseback in front of a Roman camp. While the drawing was formerly attributed to Charles Le Brun (1619-1690), it was probably done by his pupil François Verdier (1651-1730), who drew similar historic scenes in the same technique.
Prov. [Henri Hamal (1744-1820), canon from Liège (joined article)].
