Folio: [12 incl. engr. title]-374-[89] pp.; 11 pl. (half title missing; stamp cut out on title and another part. scratched and covered with paper, same for the stamp on a3, some foxing, marg. wormtrack (some in pl.) or wormholes, marg. tear in pl. p. 277).
Contemp. blind-stamped calf on wooden boards, gilt coat of arms framed with large orn. roll-stamps and fillets, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands (spine and joints renewed, rubbed, more on spine, clasps missing, lacks of leather to corners, joints split, head and tail def.).
Second folio edition of the "decas prima" of the most beautiful and prestigious edition of Strada's (1572-1649) work on the history of the Dutch Revolt. Illustrated with the Leo Belgicus title, 11 double-page plates representing the battles at Heiligerlee, Limbourg, Gembloux, Mons, etc. engraved by G. Baur. The "decas secunda" was published in 1647. A third volume was planned but the King of Spain prevented the printing.
