2 vol., large folio: [10]-[2], [2] pp.; 101 (of 105) and 103 maps, old hand-coloured with gilt details (4 missing maps: 75. Dunkirk, 78. Galloflandrie, 79. Artois, 80. Hainaut; engr. title underl., repaired and with ink notes, 1st lvs dampstained, map of Europe: repaired, underl. and with marg. tears, L2-N2: upper margin a bit moulded, 69. Imperii Caroli Magni: corner missing, tears on foldings, 73. Flandria: sl. browned and margins cut; vol. 2: 24. Rhine and 55. Magni Ducatus Lithuuaniae with tears, elsewhere: sm. tears and repairs, damp stains, ink notes, esp. in vol. 1 and wormholes in vol. 2).

A set of the 1st French edition of Blaeu's "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" (1635) in 2 volumes. According to the advertisement from 1634: an international edition on very fine paper with new copperplates and new descriptions. With 2 engr. titles and 204 (of 208) engr. maps, incl. the continents, Northern Europe, Spain, France and the Low Countries in vol. 1 (105 pl.), Germany, Eastern Europe, Italy and particular maps of the continents in vol. 2 (103 pl.), featuring Persia, China, the Bermuda archipelago, Virginia, New England, the Caribbean, etc. The world map engr. by J. vanden Ende has border panels with the sun, moon and the five known planets, the four elements, the four seasons and the seven wonders of the ancient world. The 4 maps of the continents have elaborate ornamentation with towns and costumes for the continents.
