A very nice uniformly bound set of Antonius Sanderus' most prestigious works, the Flandria Illustrata and the Chorographia sacra Brabantiae.
1. Flandria. Second, more complete edition (1st ed.: 1641-1644) of the most important topographical work on Flanders by Sanderus (1586-1664). Engr. ill. by J. Harrewijn and Blokhuysen: 90 portraits (64, 26), 155 double-page maps, views and plans (of 157), 16 engr. in texto, 3 title-vignettes by D. Coster and coat of arms of H.J. van Susteren at dedication in vol. I. Ref. BB V:36-41. - STCN 279936656.
2. Brabantia. Second edition of the "Chorographia", profusely illustrated with large views of abbeys and monasteries. This ed. is particularly interesting from a topographical viewpoint because of some renovations to the buildings since the 1st ed. (1656-1666), the new pl. are differently oriented as well. Engr. ill.: portrait of Sanderus by F. van Bleyswyck, 66 copperplates showing abbeys, monasteries, convents, Marian devotional places, incl. Affligem, Brussels, Antwerp, Mechelen, Leuven, Averbode, Grimbergen, Tongerlo, Villers, etc., 47 in texto, 3 title-vignettes and one armorial headpiece at dedication. Ref. BB V:64-68:S-216. - STCN.
Prov. Auguste-Marie-Raymond d'Arenberg, Count of La Marck (1753-1833) (armorial bookpl.).
