Lot description
12mo: [76] ff., drawings and preparatory studies, in pencil, most monogrammed "CDA" and dated, occ. with captions in French (bookblock loose).
Three-quarter black buckram, marbled paper covers, flat spine (rubbed).
Nice album representing mostly portraits of women (among which probably his daughter Eva, composer and singer, and one identified as Mrs Fanny de Haas), Dell'Acqua wrote a short index for this album numbered "XX" and titles these portraits as "types de femmes". It also includes a portrait of a bearded man, views of Laeken (one titled "ciel gris orageux, arbres éclairés") and of the botanical garden of Brussels, drawings of the Louis XIV style vases in the park, studies of leaves, but also of heads, dogs, one drawing representing the fairy "Puck" from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (?), one named "Recevez mes félicitations", etc. Following the drawings, Dell'Acqua wrote various notes (names, subjects for paintings (?), etc.) or impressions a painting had on him. This sketchbook is a testimony of his walks, the plays he saw, the people he met..., retranscribed in drawings.
