Lot description
Black chalk, 56,5 x 29,5 cm, wove paper 60 x 36,5 cm, pencil signed and dated "[19]17" (unobtrusive marg. light stains, no fixative).
Accurate drawing after a famous sculpture made by Germain Pilon. The original sculpture was ordered by Queen Catherine de Médicis in name of her husband, the King of France Henri II and stood in the church of monastery of Celestins in Paris. Montald (1862-1944) was a Belgian painter, muralist and sculptor, and one of the final leading figures of Belgian Art Nouveau.
