Contemp. sheep, gilt-orn. floral spines with 5 raised bands, brown title labels (rubbed, some def. on covers).

Major and influential work of the German politician and writer Bielfeld (1717-1770) on economic freedom, the development of colonies and how they quickly gain independence, institutional struggle against poverty, population growth, etc. A large part of the work is devoted to economy and finance. Ill. with an engr. front. portrait by J. Houbraken, dated "1759"; engr. titles in red & black and 4 folding pl. A third posthumous vol. completes the set, but is almost always missing. The "supplement aux institutions politiques" (32 pp.) is joined in loose gatherings.
