Cont. 15th-c. monastic binding: blindstamped calf over wood, blindst. orn. spine on 4 raised bands, covers with blindst. floral decoration within blindruled rectangular and lozenge-shaped framework and with lozenge-shaped flower stamps, metal clasps and catches (joints rep. and split, head & tail rep.). Very good wide-margined copy.

Second Dutch-language edition (1st 1484-85) and the first extensively illustrated edition in any language. The excellent woodcuts (3 full-page, 7 half-page, 13 smaller ones incl. twice printer's arms) include 3 full-page ones "Virgin appearing to St. Bernard", "Annunciation", "Salvator Mundi", which belong to "the best Dutch woodcuts of the period" (Hind). Most of the smaller woodcuts, incl. a series after Israel van Meckenem, were used earlier by Gerard Leeu. A loose ms. note in the book states that, according to Prosper Verheyden, this 15th-c. binding could be attributed to "Stoutmerk. d'Anvers". Decoration: Rubricated throughout in red, with some 120 initials in red (2-6 lines), three 4-5 line initials in blue and one 6-line initial in blue with red penwork extending along inner margin between 2 columns (a1).
