Lot description
Folio: 52 ff.
Sewn gatherings held together with 3 leather straps and cardb. boards. In a publ. box (box sm. tears at spine).
Unique collection of 51 acrylic paintings on paper (30,8 x 22,8 cm) depicting colourful portraits and scenes with human figures, many signed at lower right and all with a watercoloured title (in French) in the lower margin. Pillen (Moen 1931-2014) was a Belgian painter and draughtsman. He studied at the Sint-Lucas School in Ghent and was based in Zaire for a while. His work evolved from expressionism - inspired by his stay in Africa - to contemporary modern art. The influence of African culture is especially recognizable in the colorful scenes. People are central to his work.
