Contemp. marbled sheep, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, red edges (rubbed, label pasted on front covers).
Rare edition, i.e. second Dutch counterfeit (?) of the "Nouvelle description des châteaux et parcs de Versailles et Marly" (1st Parisian ed.: 1685 for Versailles, 1701 for Versailles and Marly), written by Piganiol de La Force (1673-1753). Illustrated with 42 plates, of which 22 folding. Despite the title, this successful guide is essentially devoted to Versailles, the description of Marly occupying only the last pages of vol. II. With explanations on the paintings, sculptures, vases and ornaments that can be seen in these castles, the names of their artists and their dimensions. The table of artists is accompanied by a biography.
