Rare first edition of this surveying and mapmaking book by the military engineer Dupain de Montesson (c. 1715-1790), who instructed the art of dressing a military map to Louis XVI and to the Duc de Berry, to whom the work is dedicated. Engr. ills: 5 folding tables and 5 folding plates showing surveying instruments, how to execute a land survey and how to dress maps, for military use and for civil and rural architecture. Ref.
