Lot description

4 parts in 1 vol., folio: engr. title-[2]-8, 4, 4, 4 pp.; 119 pl. (occ. soiling, tear strengthened to 1st double pl. in pt. III, sl. damp stain to lower margin of last pl.).

Contemp. calf, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, red edges (sl. traces of use, sm. stains).

Third edition (1st: 1694), rarer than the other editions and very similar to the ed. of 1694, divided in 4 parts: Leuven, Brussels, Antwerp and 's-Hertogenbosch. The composition of plates differs according to the different editions, and as BB only collated one copy of the 1697 edition, it is difficult to specify the exact amount of plates. We have: a nice front. by A. van Diepenbeeck, identical to the front. of previous ed., 2 double-page maps (Brabant and marquisate of Antwerp), a double-page plan of Antwerp, 116 plates (some with 2 or 3 copper-engr. and incl. 19 on double page) representing castles, each with coat of arms of the landowner and some monuments, 2 of the 4 new plates i.e. Claverbladt and Zelzate in 3rd part, a "schema metallorum" in-text and an armorial title-vignette.
Ref. BB III:851-852.
