Folio: [8]-cxlv-[1] ff. (2 tiny wormholes/1 sm. wormtrack in text closed in first part of vol., ff. A1, L6 & L8 cut shorter, some contemp. marg. notes; toning, some light soiling i.a. on title).
Mod. blind-stamped calf "à l'ancienne" (soiled, corners bumped, some sm. def.), spine with 5 raised bands (joints rubbed, def. at head & tail), mod. endpapers. Good copy.
Very rare first edition of this very personal history of the Low Countries, full of anecdotes, with additional Dutch verses. In the many later ed. (2nd 1574) the work is known as "Die historie van Belgis". Numerous small woodcuts in-text, some repeats. Woodcut mark on title. Title within woodcut ornamental border. Woodcut wan Vaernewijck arms in prelims, woodcut Ghent maid at the end. In Gothic type, in 2 col.
