Contemp. calf, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, red spr. edges (rubbed, wormholes to spine and lower joint, front joint partly split, binding sl. loosening).

First edition. A second edition was published the same year with the same date but with the title "La Pratique de l'éducation des princes, contenant l'Histoire de Guillaume de Croÿ [...]". Despite the title, the work is not dealing with education but is a biography of Guillaume de Croÿ (1458-1521), Lord of Chièvres, focusing especially on the measures he took to educate his pupil, the futur Charles V. Illustrated with copper-engr. headpieces: 5 identical and 1 armorial to dedication, and with a title-vign. with the arms of France. By Varillas (1620-1696) historiographer of Gaston, Duke of Orléans, and librarian to the Bibliothèque Royale.
