Dark blue silk signed Mertens, boards decorated with a large gilt royal crown in a fine gilt and mosaic frame, with date "9 APRIL/ 1853" gilt lettered on upper board, white moiré silk endpapers, a.e.g. (some min. missing on mosaics, gold sl. discoloured on crowns). Nice copy.

First edition, probably issued in a very small number, of an ode in honour of the Duke of Brabant, future King Leopold II, on his eighteenth birthday. By Stroobant (1819-1889), Belgian politician and writer, very active in Flemish literary and cultural circles in Brussels.
