Lot description

4to: [12]-280-[31] pp. (toned, unobtrusive dampstaining).

Contemp. gilt calf, covers with coat of arms and double gilt ruled borders, gilt spine with 4 raised bands, red edges (sl. rubbed, front joint just starting to split, tail def.). Very good copy.

Rare Florence ed. by the Scottish historian Thomas Dempster (1579-1625) of an early history of the First Crusade by the Italian humanist Benedetto Accolti the Elder (1415-1464), 1st publ. Venice 1532. Woodcut arms on title. Large woodcut mark at the end. Fragment of a 16th-c. archival document in French pasted on lower endpaper.
