Contemp. calf, gilt orn. spine with 5 raised bands, red edges. Good copy.
Later edition (first 1746) of this manuel for practical ophtalmology based on Boerhaave's 1708 series of public lectures. Ill. with 4 engr. plates showing in 22 figures the workings of the eye in defective vision and in corrected sight. With a description of the function of the eye as a telescopic- or microscopical-functioning organ (referring to Galileo's invention) and explaining the various conditions of the eye such as amaurosis, cataracts, conjunctivitis, hallucinations, lachrymal ducts and glands, misalignment of the eyes, myopia, nyctalopia (night blindness), ocular tumors (elephantiasis), ophthalmia, presbyopia, squinting, symptomatic congenital lacrimal fistulas, as well as the cornea, sclera and retina.
