Contemp. vellum, flat spine titled in ink. Very good copy.
New edition of this history of the early medieval Low Countries. It is an adaptation of Verstegan's "Nederlantsche antiquiteyten", published from 1613 onwards, in turn a reworking of his main work "Restitution of decayed intelligence in Antiquities" (Antwerp 1605), in which the author strives to show and embrace the remains of Anglo-Saxon in England's language, customs and laws. Engr. ill.: title by J. Goeree, folding map, 7 ill. in-text showing Germanic gods, 17 full-page pl. showing Germanic warriors (7, i.a. "Goth", "Wandaal", "Markoman", "Quaade") and views of ruins and castles (9, i.a. Muiden, Egmond, Wijk bij Duurstede, Purmerend, Medenblik) and 2 folding pl. showing Germanic religious rites and battle formations.
Ref. STCN (i.a. BL).
