Lot description

4 engravings, ca. 45 x 33,5 cm, laid paper, signed in the plate at lower left "Watteau pinx."(all) and at lower right "Desplace Sculp." (Spring), "M. J. Renard du Bos. Sculp" (Summer), "Faissar Sculp." (Autumn), "J. Audran Sculp." (Winter) (foxing, some with margins cut, stains, cut, doubled, browned, wormholes).

Under passe-partout (damaged, glue residue).

After the four oval paintings for the dining room of Mr. Crozat. The painting of Summer now in Washington (National Gallery of Art, inv. 1961.9.50). Engraved for the "Recueil Jullienne" (the compendium of prints after Watteau’s work) by Louis Desplaces (Spring), Marie-Jeanne Renard du Bos (Summer), Étienne Fessard (Autumn) and Jean Audran (Winter).
Prov. John Postle Heseltine (1843-1929), British stockbroker, artist and trustee of the National Gallery (coll. stamp, L. 1508).
